Mary Schweiger (Miss Mary) began dancing at the age of 7, a few months after watching The Nutcracker with the San Francisco Ballet. By the age of 16, Mary was teaching her own ballet, tap and jazz classes. Mary performed with a regional ballet company and became a soloist and principal dancer. In high school her interest in dance expanded toward theater where she performed in musical productions and won several dance competitions. In 1984 she competed and was crowned Miss Kitsap County, and participated in the Miss Washington Pageant.

After graduating from high school, Mary continued to dance at Eastern Washington University. She was a member of the Jazz Team and performed in the Spring Ballets. Mary was nominated to the Home Coming Court based upon her success in these performances. As an undergraduate student, she also was a Teaching Assistant in the dance program.

In 1990 Mary graduated from EWU with a degree in Clinical Psychology. Although Mary pursued her career as a counselor, she also continued to teach and perform with a local dance company. From 1996 to 2001, Mary served on the Board of Directors and was elected Vice President of a regional dance company. In 2001, Mary opened Miss Mary's Dancewear in Bremerton and relocated the business to the Kitsap Mall. However, running a dance store was not as rewarding as teaching dance, so in 2006, Mary opened The Charleston Ballroom where she primarily teaches ballet. This past year she became a part-time faculty member at a private, secondary school, the West Sound Academy, where she is teaching ballet, modern, lyrical and beginning ballroom.
